..... support us in strengthening these communities efforts.

Early Childhood Care and Education programme

Support a preschool with supplementary nutrition for a month
Every preschool focuses on the education and health care needs of over 30 children. Although the primary responsibility of providing a meal remains with the parent, in most low-socioeconomic areas where many children are malnourished, there is an acute need for providing a supplementary meal. The infrastructural support for providing a kitchen and utensils is raised by the local community. Thereafter contributions from individual donors of Rs 1950/- a month ensures support for food in these preschool centers.

Support a preschool with Learning Material
Every preschool is organized by community identifying basic resources from within the local set-up. The place is provided by the community, materials for the first few months also contributed by parents and teacher identified as a local volunteer. This local volunteer is trained on an ongoing monthly basis, using specific teaching- learning aids. The training has been designed to enhance capabilities of these community based early child care practitioners. Focusing on preschool learning these materials support the learning activities of an individual center. The contribution amounts to approx. Rs 4000/- per year for a preschool center.

Support a preschool for one year
MAYA's ECCE project currently supports over 180 preschools in the low income areas of Bangalore Urban & Rural districts, reaching out to over 6000 children. Each preschool supports over 30 children in the age group of 2 to 6 years. Your contribution of Rs 22,000/- would directly support the costs of running the preschool for one year.

Prajayatna - Elementary Education Reform programme

Support a government school
Prajayatna mobilizes the local community at a village level to initiate action for reform through the SDMC (School Development and Monitoring Committee). Prajayatna also builds on institutional capacities of the SDMCs in being able to address their local school needs. In this process many SDMC's have demonstrated a potential to seek external or larger community resources to utilize it to fulfill their school plans. Although a national scheme of the Sarva Shikhshana Abhiyaan supports the implementation of these plans, the schools require additional support. Hence any contribution made to MAYA towards improving government school would be directly routed through the SDMCs towards the school betterment in terms of infrastructure, learning materials and providing for additional teacher support.

Support for Infrastructure
Individuals interested in supporting government school infrastructure could contribute a sum of Rs 10,000/-This would be utilised for schools in need of toilets, compounds, kitchens and for repair and maintenance.

Support for Learning Materials
The SDMCs along with the teacher make yearly plans for the betterment of their schools. Resources in terms of learning materials have often been identified as an area requiring support. Your contributions would be used for books, learning aids and other stationery requirement of the school.

Support for Additional Teacher
Often in very remote areas the teachers need additional support for their schools where one teacher conducts various classes. A volunteer from the community is identified and trained over a period of time providing the necessary additional support. Even in low income areas with classrooms teeming with children the teacher has found additional support to be very useful. The volunteer's monthly honorarium can be supported by contributing Rs 1000/- a month for a school.
